Maria " Nica" Leon, age 87 of Wyoming, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at home surrounded by family. The daughter of Pedro & Maria (Vales) Fernandez, she was born on May 17, 1929 in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Nica worked for Keeler Brass for over 30 years before retiring so she could have more time to spend with her grandchildren. She was the most caring, loving and supportive mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. Her love was unconditional and the joy she brought to those around her was unending. Nica enjoyed going to bingo, even if that meant walking two miles to get there, and had a very keen sense of style and love for high heels.
Nica was preceded in passing by her loving husband of 53 years, Mario Antonio Leon; parents; and siblings, Pedro, Gloria, and Cuca. Surviving are her sons, Mario Hugo Leon, who cared for her the last three years and Leon (Jinger) Leon; grandchildren, Lennox and Evan; sister, Gladys; brother, Gilberto; along with many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave. S.E. Grand Rapids (One block west of Eastern Ave.) with committal services at Noon on Monday at Resurrection Cemetery, 4100 Clyde Park Ave. S.W., Wyoming.
