Maria Engracia Cardenas, age 79, formerly of Greenville, passed away Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024 at her daughter's home in Grand Rapids under the loving care of her family and Corewell Health Hospice. The daughter of Cliofas & Francisca (Rios) Jasso, she was born on May 11, 1944 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico. A devoted wife and mother, Maria also worked outside the home at the former Electrolux Home Products and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Greenville. Maria enjoyed gardening, canning and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Margarito "Mike" Cardenas, Jr., on October 27, 2022; a sister, Angelica "Angie" Zamora; and three brothers, Ciriaco “Cid” Jasso, Alfredo “Freddy” Zamora, and Antonio "Tony" Jasso. Surviving are her three daughters, Linda & Leo Pina of Saranac, Yolanda & Joe Fuentes of Grand Rapids, and Diana Cardenas of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren, Rosalinda Pina, Roberto "Donk" Pina, Alexandria Fuentes, Brandon & Autumn Fuentes, Victoria & Ivan Fuentes, Josie (fiance, Cole) Fuentes, Ignacio (fiance, Kiana) Morin, Sergio Morin and Yliana Morin; eleven great-grandchildren Saige, Sebastian, Sterling, Sway, Avianna, Zuko, Ignacio Jr., Maximus, Liliana, Ares, and Sergio, Jr.; five sisters, Ana & Tom Huey, Reme Delgado, Adelina "Nina" Johnston, Tila Almanza, and Norma & Jack Reich; two sisters-in-law, Carol Jasso and Gloria Jasso; and many, many nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with a rosary prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 505 S. Lafayette Street, Greenville, with the Rev. Father James Wyse as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Instead of flowers, contributions in memory of Maria may be directed to Corewell Health Hospice or the St. Mary’s Foundation Kidney Transplant Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
