Margaret Bowles

Margaret E. Bowles, age 67, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died peacefully with her son, Colin, at her bed side. Margaret was born May 3, 1955, in Greenock, Scotland, to Archibald and Jessie (Kennedy) Edwards. When she was three years old her family moved to the Detroit area where she lived until she graduated high school in 1972. Margaret then moved back to Scotland to study nursing and obtained her Bachelor's degree from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and went on to obtain her PhD from Duquesne University. Margaret was a longtime nursing instructor at Grand Rapids Community College. She was a passionate educator and is fondly remembered by her students and the faculty. She retired in 2012, and with her husband, Robin began a series of world travels. Margaret will be sadly missed by her friends and family. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Robin; son, Colin (Abby VanDeraa) Bowles; daughter, Anne (Pierre Gaunaurd) Bowles; grandchildren, Lucy, Maisie, Nora, Adelaide, and Callum; mother, Jessie Herreshoff; brother, John (Kara) Edwards; sister-in-law, Jacqui Kerney; brother-in-law, Stuart Bowles; and nieces and nephews, Ian, Meredith, Isobel, Kim, and Graeme. Those wishing to honor Margaret can donate to the GRCC Foundations Margaret Bowles Scholarship Fund. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain Street NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Per Margaret's wishes she has donated her body to the Michigan State University Body Donor Program.
