Marc Worst

July 2, 1948 — January 26, 2022

Marc Worst Sr., age 73, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, after a 15 month battle with cancer. Marc was born to Gordon and Dorene Worst of Galesburg on July 2, 1948, and a 1966 graduate of Galesburg Augusta HS. Marc worked as a young man on a local farm, at Taylor Lumber, and at Roelof Dairy. He had one brother, James and two sisters, LouAnn and Dorrenne. He married the love of his life, Pamela Ball on April 29, 1967. Together they raised two sons Marc II and Steven. He retired after 35 years in paper making, at what was to become Graphic Packaging. Marc proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968-1970, with a tour in Vietnam from 1969-1970. Marc was a lifetime member of the VFW and an active member of Augusta Post 7956. He was looking forward to going soon on the Talons Honor Flight with his son, Marc II. Although he didn't get to make that trip, he was thankful he had the chance to go as a companion to a dear friend and WWII vet, Dave Eldridge, in 2019. He loved the outdoors, especially fall, hunting for that prized deer, summer fishing, and golf with his best friend from high school, Butch Barker. The fall "guy" trips with his good friends, Evar Corradini, Kenny Leland, Shawn Gallagher, and Dennis Geiger always made him happy. Marc bowled for many years at several alleys, and achieved a 300 game at Eastland Bowl; he wore his ring proudly. Marc loved to travel and took many trips to Hawaii, Ireland, and liked cruising to Alaska and took several Viking River Cruises. Marc was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve; parents- in-law, Margaret "Peggy" and Dick Boyd; brother, Jim; and brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Ball. Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Pam; son, Marc II (Cathy); grandchildren, Aurora, Jacob and Grace Worst; sisters, LouAnn (Lon) Grover and Dorrenne (John Lee); and brother-in-law, Terry (Kathy) Born. Pam would like to send much love to her and Marc's dear family and friends who gave them so much support before, during, and after Marc's passing. In addition to the family named above they would like to thank cousins and family members, Ken and Carol Baker, Stephanie Kuhn, and Gary Thomas and friends, Mary Staron, Bill and Cheryl Lemmien, and Ellen and Dave Eldridge. Special thanks to Gib and Carol Wood for the weekly cards to uplift Marc's spirit. Per his wishes cremation has taken place and a committal service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 1550 Dickman Road, Augusta, MI, where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army and Fort Custer Volunteer Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow at VFW Augusta Post 7956, on M-96. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006, exclusive providers of Veterans Funeral Care.
