Lynwood Curtis “Lyn” Cannon, age 87, formerly of rural Lakeview, Michigan, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 8, 2026 at his home in Greenville, Michigan under the loving care of his daughters and Heartland Hospice.
The son of Valmore George & Bethel Estella (Sanders) Cannon, he was born on October 20, 1938 at his parents first home in Douglass Township, moving later to Cannonsville Road south of Lakeview. Lyn graduated from Lakeview High School and on December 10, 1960, at the First Congregational Church in Greenville, he married the former Janice JoAnn Weber. Together they raised three daughters, farmed, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage until Janice passed away on March 26, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
In addition to farming, Lyn was a journeyman pipefitter and retired from the former Electrolux Home Products, served for 28 years on the Pine Township Board of Trustees, was a member of the Michigan Township Association, and for the last several years attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coral. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking, but found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends.
Surviving are his daughters, Jenny & Russ Bennett of Belding, JoAnn Lay of Portage, and Beth & Jeff Burnett, of Portage; his special friend and companion, Ann Boerma; a sister, Velma Witzel; eight grandchildren, Michael & Hailey Kelly, Kristina & Jason Lechner, Zachary & Lauren Lay, Alissa & Don Hartman, Jessica & Steve Hunter, Melynie Bennett, Brandon & Sydney Bennett, and Joshua Kelly and his fiancée, Joanie Gilger; five great-grandchildren; William & Amanda Kelly, Julienne Kelly, Daniel Thompson, Lillian Doty, and Maisee Lay; a great-great grandson, Ernest Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026 and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026 at Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
The Rev. Chris Kaufield, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Langston. Envelopes for memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice will be available at the funeral home.
