Lucy Mae VanVleet, age 81, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 21, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, to Brice & Omah Singleton.
Lucy was employed by General Motors retiring in 2002.
She enjoyed going to the Casino, scratch off tickets, dancing to country music, watching the Kentucky Derby, but most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lucy was compassionate and caring, she had a heart of gold, was and always put others first. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Cathy (Jack Debruyn) DeWitt, Diana Copeland, James VanVleet, Scot VanVleet and Angeleen (Beau) Jackobs; grandchildren, Heather (Nick) Kasnowicz, Michael (fiancé, Rachel) DeWitt, Ashley (Fiancé, Jose) Eyk, Jennifer (Matt) Barczak, Kyle Seelye, Jozlyn Hyde, Chase VanVleet, Caden VanVleet, Juliana, Chloe and Harper Jackobs; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Millard (Millie) Singleton, Connie (Bill) Lentz, Vernie Singleton, Jim (Bea) Singleton and Donna Singleton; and mother, Irma Singleton.
She is preceded in death by her father, Brice Singelton; mother, Omah Woods; brother, Perry Singleton and son-in-law, Joe Copeland.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue SE. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
