Lucille E. Patterson, age 88, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 at her home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Elmer & Theresa (Hunter) Anderson, she was born on Dec, 29, 1919 in Fairplains Township and graduated from Greenville High School in 1937. She attended and graduated from the St. Marys Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids and then worked at the former Belding Community Hospital and retired from United Memorial Hospital in 1979 with over 30 years of service. On May 2, 1942, in Grand Rapids, she married William R. Pat Patterson and together they were blessed with 61 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed traveling and camping, and were members of St. Charles Catholic Church where Lucille had been a member of the Altar Society in addition to serving as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Hospitality Committee. In recent years, Lucille enjoyed playing cards at the Greenville Senior Center and in Belding, and was an avid knitter delighting in making hundreds of pairs of mittens for less fortunate children. She was preceded in death by her parents; a step-mother, Margaret Anderson; her husband, William Pat Patterson of Aug. 3, 2003; and two infant daughters, Joy and Susan Patterson. Surviving are thee sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven W. Patterson of Greenville, David E. & Marta Patterson of Trufant, and Michael J. Patterson of Greenville; two step-grandchildren, Kasey Shilling of Trufant, and Amy & Mike Houghton of Sheridan; four great grandchildren, Aubrianna, Vincent, Gage, & Braiden; and two cousins, Arlene Alles and June Courter. The Mass of Christian Burial for Lucille will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 from St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Phil Salmonowicz presiding. Following the luncheon, burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Belding. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with a Rosary prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Instead of flowers, Lucille would have appreciated contributions in her memory to St. Charles Catholic Church.
