Louise Alice VanOeveren, aged 85, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 15, 2026 . Born on May 22, 1941, in Grand Rapids, MI, Louise was the beloved daughter of the late William and Antoinette Wagenaar. She was predeceased by her parents and her great-granddaughter, Lillian Louise Fritz, who she will now join in eternal peace. Louise graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School in 1959, laying the foundation for a life rich in friendships and community involvement. Her career path led her to work at Rapistan in Grand Rapids, MI, and later, she became a familiar face as a hostess at Russ' Restaurant on Plainfield Avenue, where she greeted everyone with her trademark warmth for 15 years. A devoted member of Fourth Reformed Church and Bethany Reformed Church, Louise shared her faith generously by teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and immersing herself in church activities. Her love for sports was evident in her enthusiasm for bowling, volleyball, and softball, which brought her great joy! Cooking was another passion that she indulged in, delighting her family with delicious meals and cherished recipes. She was famous for her delicious pecan sweet rolls! Louise's personality was a beacon of light to everyone she encountered. Known for her humor, outgoing nature, and genuine love for people, she had an incredible gift for making everyone feel special. Her storytelling was legendary, filled with vivid recollections of family trips to the family cottage at Chippewa Lake. These stories generated fond memories and warmth, and will be treasured by her family. Louise is survived by her loving children, Tim (Kim) VanOeveren, Nanci (Dan) Kuyers, and Jim (Tonya) VanOeveren. Her sisters, Joanne (late David) Geerligs and Shirley (Ken) Pierce, will deeply miss her presence. She leaves behind a legacy of love and pride in her grandchildren, Ashley (Zac) Matson, Emily (Anthony) Provenzola, Karlee (Stephen) Hermes, Whitney VanOeveren, Graham Kuyers, Justin (Stephanie) VanOeveren, Kelsey (Jonathan) Fritz, and Morgan (Jonny) Hoekstra. She is also survived by 9 beautiful great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date where family will gather to honor Louise's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Faith Hospice in Grand Rapids, MI, reflecting Louise's compassionate nature and desire to support those that cared for her in her most difficult days. Louise's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She was a remarkable, spunky woman whose vibrant spirit will be missed deeply and remembered fondly.
