Linda Kalin

January 6, 1942 — December 30, 2020

Linda Louise Kalin, age 78, of Reed City, passed away Wednesday morning, December 30, 2020 at her home under the loving care of her daughter and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of George Ralph & Aneta May (Moore) Townsend, she was born on January 6, 1942. Linda earned her Master's of Education from Michigan State University, and for 28 years worked as a special education certified Teacher Consultant for the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed antiquing, painting, reading mystery novels, stamping, Zumba, getting her steps in and meeting with her friends for breakfast. Always energetic and open to new adventures, she traveled to Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Jamaica, China, England and Mexico. She was also passionate about caring for people and animals, baking delicious cookies for everyone she knew and providing a welcoming porch with an endless "buffet" for abandoned and feral cats in her neighborhood. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, "Bud" Townsend; her sister, Nancy (Jerry) O'Neal; her ex-husband, Duane Kalin; a niece Pattie Jo O'Neal; and two nephews, Kevin O'Neal and John Molhoek. Linda is survived by her daughter, Dresden Kalin of Reed City; her sister, Ann Molhoek, and Ann's children, Paula, Sara and Aaron; sister-in-law, Ruth Bolthouse, and her daughters, Vicky, Cheryl and Suzanne; Nancy's children, Jerry Lee, Stephen and Laurie; sister-in-law, Barbara Coutts, and her sons, Rob, Brian and David; sister-in-law Jody Shoemaker, her husband Charles, and their sons, Mike and Jeff; and her feline buddy Martin, who hasn't stopped searching under the furniture for her. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned during the pandemic. A celebration of life gathering will be held in late summer with family. Instead of flowers, Linda would have appreciated contributions in her memory to an animal shelter of your choice or one of the following: https://www.osceola-county.org/residents/county_departments/animal_control/index.php, http://www.arcofmecostacounty.com/how-to-help/ (including TNR Mecosta), or https://acpaw.org/pages/help.html. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville, (616) 754-5638.
