Lewis Leroy Stout

Lewis Leroy Stout, age 64, of Pierson, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital after a brief illness. The son of Charles Leroy & Rosalie Inez (Moe) Stout, he was born on June 10, 1961 in Grand Rapids. On May 23, 1981, in Rockford, he married the love of his life, Nancy Chloe Smith, and together they enjoyed 42 years of marriage and raised four children.

Lewis enjoyed hunting, farming, smelt-dipping, and going on “deer-looks” around the neighborhood with Nancy. He and Nancy were also known for hosting over the top get togethers for Fourth of July and the Super Bowl. They loved entertaining and treasured those times with their family and friends.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Rosalie; his beloved wife, Nancy; and two brothers, Douglas Stout and Clifford Stout.

Surviving are his children, Beverly & Kenneth Ream of Pierson, Chad Stout & Sue Hansen of Sparta, Bernard Stout of Grand Rapids, and Charlotte Stout of Pierson; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Darva & William Borowka; a brother, Edward & Jamie Stout; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Chaddock, Cathy Smith, and Sandy Smith; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Smith; his best friend Scott Rowland; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Lewis’s life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pierson Hall (190 W. Grand Street, Pierson).

Nancy Chloe Stout, age 66, of Pierson, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 at home under the loving care of her family and Corewell Health Hospice (formerly Spectrum Health Hospice) after a brave battle with cancer. The daughter of Otto Edward & Arlene Gladys (Finney) Smith, she was born on June 12, 1956 in Rapid City, Michigan. On May 23, 1981, in Rockford, she married the love of her life, Lewis Leroy Stout and together they enjoyed 42 years of marriage and raised four children. Nancy also worked outside of the home at Universal Products for 24 years and enjoyed spending time with grandkids, sewing, flowers, gardening, going for night time nature looks, yard sales and treasure hunting. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Brenda Branchan; father-in-law, Charles Stout; mother-in-law, Rosalie Stout-Harper; and two brothers-in-law, Clifford Stout and Douglas Stout; and a sister-in-law, Tamara Smith. Surviving are her husband, Lewis Stout of Pierson; their children, Beverly & Kenneth Ream of Pierson, Chad Stout & Sue Hansen of Sparta, Bernard Stout of Pierson, and Charlotte Stout of Pierson; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronnie Smith; three sisters, Barbara Chaddock, Cathy Metzger, and Sandy Smith; her step-father-in-law, Darrell Harper; a sister-in-law, Darva & Bill Borowka; a brother-in-law, Edward & Jamie Stout; and many nieces and nephews.
