Leona Katherine Johnson, age 78, of Langston, passed away Wednesday evening, February 5, 2025 at home under the loving care of her family and Corewell Health Hospice. The daughter of Harry James & Flossie Pauline (Clum) Field, she was born on March 21, 1946 in Sheridan, Michigan.
When Leona was younger, you could find her around a bonfire with friends and family drinking a Michelob Gold, taking pictures of everything with her disposable camera from her purse, and taking care of anyone who came through her door. Leona enjoyed crocheting, was a hard worker and enjoyed farming and milking cows. She raised seven of her own children, and still found time to take care of critters and anyone or anything else that needed help.
She enjoyed traveling to the Mackinaw Bridge with her kids and grandkids; cherished spoiling her grandkids with treats, loved her nickname, “Gramma Bubbles”, and delighted in crossword books, talking to her sister and kids on the telephone (a true social bug), and her furry friends she’s had throughout the years. Her special canine friends, Missy and Shepsky knew there’d be no trouble if they found gramma when their human mom and dad got after them for some mischief. While her hobbies and interest paint an amazing photo, her number one goal was to be a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother… she cherished her family above everything else.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard Johnson; her second husband, George Mills, Jr.; her children, Katherine Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, and Linette Morissey; a grandson, Branden Mills; a great-grandson, Jodan Mills; her brother, Leslie Field; her sister, Vivian Gates; and her special canine friend Tramp.
Surviving are her children, Richard (Carrie) Johnson Jr., Nora (Thomas) Johnson-Proctor, Timothy (Charlotte) Johnson, Pauline (Alan) Howell, William (Christa) Mills, Patricia (Loren) Field, George (Holly) Mills, and Darlene (Ron) Thomas; numerous precious grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
