Lee Reurink

June 16, 1942 — December 2, 2022

Lee Roy Reurink, age 80, of Wayland, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, December 2, 2022, on his 55th wedding anniversary. Lee was born June 16, 1942, in Wayland, to the late Evert and Hilda (Buist) Reurink. Lee went to Moline Christian Elementary School and graduated from South Christian High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam War. Lee married the love of his life, Mary Lou Carroll on December 2, 1967. Together they raised three daughters: Lindy Reurink Lange (Steve) of Rochester, MN, Terasa Reurink of Wayland, Michigan, and Margie Reurink (Reuben) of Springfield, VT. Lee farmed (mostly corn and soybeans) and co-owned Reurink Bros. Star Silo along with his older brother, Bill (they sold Calumet and Van Dale and built several silos - all capped with a row of big green stars). He also drove truck with Consolidated Freight. Throughout the years, Lee enjoyed getting a good deal at auctions and estate sales (his latest being a John Deere lawn mower with all of the attachments), traveling to see his grandkids in Minnesota and Vermont, wearing one of his many Live Generously T-shirts, and being a great Dog Dad to Captain I, Tiki, Baby Puppy, Holland, and Captain II and Dog Grandpa to Jinx, Monty, Scout, Maisy, and Finch. In addition to his wife and children, Lee is survived by his grandchildren, Hadley, Henry, Emma, Millie, Abe, and Cecilia; brother, Evert; sisters-in-law, Pat Niemi, Mick Carroll, Mary Lou Carroll, and Ila Reurink; brothers-in-law, Doug Niemi and Jon Carroll; and several nieces and nephews, including his nephew, Bob Reurink (Trudi), who always made time to stop over to chat. Lee was preceded in death by his mother and father, Evert and Hilda Reurink; mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Viola Carroll; brother, Bill Reurink; brothers-in-law, David Carroll and Zack Moushegian; sisters-in-law, Natalie Carroll, Judy Moushegian, Peg Carroll, and Clara Reurink; nieces, Nancy DeWeerd and Linda Evers; nephews, Bill Reurink and David Reurink; great-niece, Jamie Reurink; and great-nephew, Ben Reurink. Lee's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wings of Hope Hospice for their care and compassion throughout this difficult time. Per Lee's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held at this time. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
