Lawrence Ernest "Larry" Wells, age 85, of Trufant, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023 at home. The son of Howard Lawrence & Theola Mable (Lytle) Wells, he was born on March 20, 1938 in Alma, Michigan.
Following his graduation from high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served until he was injured. After his honorable discharge, on January 7, 1961, in Dewitt, Michigan, he married Joyce Kay Hunt and together they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage and raised three children.
In Greenville, Larry barbered with Charlie Wolverton and Marv Skinner, then worked at DeVries Tire (now Wonderland) before beginning a 24 year career as a press operator with the former Electrolux Home Products. In retirement, he kept busy driving cars for Ed Koehn. He enjoyed camping, gardening and caring for his lawn, having been voted the "best kept lawn" in Trufant for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Wells, on October 18, 2020; a granddaughter, Jessica Wells; and an infant great-granddaughter, Athena Wells.
Surviving are his three children, Michelle & Jerry Smith of Gowen, Debbie & Jeff Gorby of Cedar Springs, and Steve & Wendy Wells of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Jerry S. & Tracy Smith, Angie Smith, Sean & Michal Gorby, Keegan Gorby, Tricia & Eric Simon, Tristin Wells, Alexis Wells, Kyle London, and Brett & Brena London; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family is from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Pastor Tim Hoyt of Magnify Church in Rockford will officiate and military honors, rendered by the United States Marine Corps, will follow at Trufant Cemetery.
