Lawrence Nelson

Lawrence "Larry" Charles Nelson, age 86, of Jenison, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. He was born June 6, 1938, in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Carl and Barbara (MacIntosh) Nelson. Lawrence was a hard worker and a skilled upholsterer, learning the trade from a young age and spending years perfecting it, he worked at Steelcase for 25+ years. He married the love of his life, Susan Kay DeLoy on June 26, 1959 in Grand Rapids, MI. She was his greatest supporter and caregiver until the end, he was able to remain at home because of her support. He enjoyed working outside, his lawn was envied by many, he loved staying busy. Years later his grandchildren arrived and that became the heart of his life, he loved being with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sue Nelson; children, Kelly Nelson, Steven (Kristi) Nelson, and Jodi (Ron) Luther; grandchildren, Dan Lyons, Jake (Jen) Fortier, Nick Luther, Lindsey & Holly Nelson, and Kyle (Maddi) Nelson (with a great-grandchild on the way); and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Carl & Barbara Nelson & one brother. He was very close to his wife’s family, who also preceded him in death, Skip (Joanie) DeLoy, Kathleen/Bert (Rick) Storey, and Craig (Cecile) DeLoy. Per his wishes cremation has taken place, a memorial service is being planned for early Spring and details will be announced as soon as they become available. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
