Laurel Wood-Lyons

January 11, 1953 — August 21, 2021

Laurel Colleen Wood-Lyons, age 68, left her earthly family in order to join her heavenly Father on Saturday, August 21, 2021. In a life lived passionately, and with a huge heart, she leaves behind a legacy of love, community, and hospitality. She is survived by her husband of nearly 44 years, Stephen Lyons; siblings, William Wood and his wife Susan and family, Gwen Bergin and husband Michael and family, Robert "Chip" Wood and his wife Cathy and family, Sheila Wood Bennett and husband Ray and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia & Robert Wood. Laurie was a 1971 graduate of Rockford High School and received her degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University. She was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church. Laurie loved to play golf, Canasta, Cribbage, Euchre and Mahjong. Laurie's friends and family will attest to her quick wit and sense of humor; she loved a good laugh and liked to keep you on your toes. Every year, she looked forward to inviting special friends and family to both Mayflower's Christmas Cantata and Rockford High School Choir's Christmas Concert at Blythefield Country Club. If you were ever lucky enough to attend one of her parties at the lake, and/or take a ride on her boat (including the Laurie loop) you know she welcomed all those with whom she came into contact. Visitation with the family is from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Mayflower Church, 2345 Robinson Road S.E., Grand Rapids, where memorial services will be held beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Later the same day, family and friends are invited to casually celebrate Laurie's life and enjoy a cold beverage and food at Laurie & Steve's home from 4-7 p.m. Instead of flowers, Laurie would have appreciated contributions in her memory to Mayflower Outreach. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - John 14:27 To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Laurel Wood-Lyons, please visit our flower store.
