Larry A. Petersen, 75, of Stanton, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at his home. The son of Leo Arnold and Juanita Arlene (Hart) Petersen, he was born on May 17, 1949, in Greenville.
After graduating from Greenville High School, Larry attended Michigan State University before proudly serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era, where attained the rank of Specialist and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman Badge (M-16).
Following his honorable discharge, he worked for 34 years for Meijer as a department manager… first in the combined toy and sporting goods department and retiring from sporting goods. Never one to sit still, Larry then worked nine years as a custodian for Greenville Public Schools.
He loved the Lions and Tigers, but not so much the Bears. He loved watching the deer and the birds through the early morning fog or while enjoying the evening hue. In May you might see him in the woods hunting morals or wetting a line. Some may say he lived a solitary life but with his faith and study of the scriptures, he was absolutely never alone.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are two daughters, Christina (Petersen) Loupee of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and Jennifer (Petersen) & Mark Westfield of Rockford, Michigan; three amazing grandchildren, Micah Petersen, Lydia Loupee, and Jacob Westfield; two brothers, Michael Petersen of Wilson, North Carolina, and Daniel & Deb Petersen of Greenville, Michigan; and a boatload full of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family that he loved so much.
Committal services, with military honors, are at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta, Michigan. Instead of flowers, Larry would have appreciated contributions in his memory to Cannonsville Critters, P.O. Box 94, Stanton, Michigan 48888 (https://cannonsvillecritters.org).
