Memorial: 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sheridan V.F.W. Hall
Sergeant First Class Lawrence R. Larry Nemetz, age 62, retired U.S. Army, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at his home. The son of Robert William & Dorothy May (Bice) Nemetz, he was born on Jan. 25, 1944 in Ionia. After turning 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1961 and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam conflict, where he served two tours. He continued his career in the Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class at the time of his retirement in 1979. A life member of the Lester J. Sitts V.F.W. Post 5065 in Sheridan, as well as the American Legion Post 0542 in Stanton, he also enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his three children, Karea Nemetz of Grovetown, Georgia, Sergeant First Class Kevin & Maria Nemetz of Edmore, and Sergeant Major Karon Nemetz, currently stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Lavern & Sally Andersen of Lansing; and his canine companion, Rascal.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the Sheridan V.F.W. Hall, with a luncheon following the service. Pastor Harry Goldberg of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Edmore will officiate and military honors will be rendered by the Lester J. Sitts V.F.W. Post 5065. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will be at Evergreen Township Cemetery near Sheridan.
The Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville, was entrusted with the arrangements and is serving the Nemetz family.
