Larry Allen Hein, 72, and Joyce Ann Hein, 66, passed away August 5, 2018 after a tragic accident.
Larry, the son of Harold Hein & Margaret (Slatton) Hein-Cohn, was born on May 1, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents precede him in death. He leaves his sister, Marilyn Hein, Terre Haute, IN, nieces, Tina Kiger (David), Lisa Stehle, Greencastle, IN, Stephanie Giltz (Marty), Greencastle, IN, as well as several great nieces and nephews. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal: Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star: Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device: Meritorious Unit Commendation: Navy Unit Commendation: Battle Efficiency "E" Award: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). With his love of singing, he sang in barbershop quartets and several choirs, loved billiards and boating both here and in South West Florida

Joy, the daughter of Albert and Alix (Gradolph) Hirzel was born on December 9, 1951, in Akron, Ohio. Her father preceded her in death. She leaves her mother, Alix Hirzel, Bath, OH, sisters: Holly Hirzel, Bath, OH, Carolyn Birchenall, Peninsula, OH, Julia Hirzel (Ralph) Peninsula, OH, Amy Wert (Glenn), Sheffield, OH, and nieces and nephews, Sasha Birchenall (Burr), Asheville, NC, Neill Birchenall (Lorna) Sheffield, England, Eric Birchenall (Rachel), Paris, France, Rael Wert, Cleveland, OH, Jack Wert (Emily), Portland, OR, William Wert, Sheffield, OH, and Anna Wert, Sheffield, OH, and her great nieces and nephews. She was an exceptional photographer, an active member of the Professional Photographers of West Michigan, and employed by Allied Photo / Photo Evo for 28 years. She was an avid reader, especially in her lovely garden.

A gathering of family and friends for Larry and Joy Hein will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave. S.E. at 36th Street (one block west of Eastern Avenue), Grand Rapids, with military honors concluding the reception. Honoring the Hein's wishes, no funeral or burial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in their honor may be made to either the American Heart Association or the Breast Cancer Awareness Society.
