Larry Bowen

Larry E. Bowen, age 66, of Richland, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Life Care Nursing Home in Plainwell. He joins his mom, dad the late Donald E. & Johanna Bowen in Heaven. Larry leaves behind his lovely bride of 39 years, Laura Gates Bowen; his three children, Jason Bowen, Lisa Al-fehaid and John Bowen; four grandchildren; brother; sister; four brothers in law and sisters in law. He was born in Ionia on May 10, 1958, where he was raised on the family farm until he reached elementary school. The family moved to the Kalamazoo area and finally settling in Richland. Larry graduated from Gull Lake High School in 1977. His family then moved to Pine Lake/Doster where Larry was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a firefighter. In fall of 1977, he joined the Pine Lake Fire Department until 1986 when he married Laura. Larry transferred to Hickory Corners Fire Department where he spent the next 29 years. One of the highlights for Larry was the annual Memorial Day Parade when the fire department would drive their fire trucks through Hickory Corners. He was proud to be a part of the parade. Larry also worked in the construction field. He built houses, apartments, drilled water wells and repaired them as well. Most of all, Larry’s pride and joy were his kids. He was at every ball game or music event they were involved in. Larry will be truly missed by his wife, Laura; his kids, Jason, Lisa and John; along with is grandkids. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 10, 2025 from 11am - 2pm at the Hickory Corners Bible Church, In Hickory Corners.
