It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Lance Patrick King, who left this world on May 9, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family at home. Lance was born on February 4, 1955, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Jack and Joan King. He was 71 years old.
Lance was a devoted family man and a loving husband to Terese L. King, with whom he shared a remarkable 44-year marriage. Their journey began on September 9, 1982, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children: Amber (Scott) Hunter, Autumn King, Karley (Shane) Kroon, and Stuart (Lauryn) King. Lance's legacy will continue to shine brightly through his cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Brett, Noah, Keegan, Trent, Trevor, Kaylee, Caleb, Owen, and Sadie, who adored their grandfather deeply.
An alumnus of Kelloggsville High School, Lance went on to serve his country with the United States Army while stationed in Germany from 1972 to 1975.
Lance worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, including one where he met his best friend of over 30 years, Shane Palmer. The highlight of his career was his time as "that dam guy" serving as a hydroelectric operator for the Belding and Whites Bridge Dams. Lance took pride in overseeing the Flat River for many years, from Six Lakes to Fallsburg, and was known for his dedication and expertise.
Lance was a man of pride, and unwavering integrity. Everyone who knew him will fondly remember his signature ZZ Top beard and his ever-present cheap sunglasses, as well as the way his eyes would light up just before his genuine laughter filled the room. An outdoorsman at heart, he relished the beauty of nature, finding joy in fishing, hunting, camping, walking through the woods and making friends with the squirrels. He was an avid antique collector, metal detector enthusiast, and coin collector, patiently awaiting the discovery of Oak Island's mysterious treasure. Lance found comfort in the timeless allure of old Westerns and the simple pleasure of spending time with his family.
He was a long-standing member of the American Legion, where he built lasting friendships and contributed to the community. Though he has departed, the love he shared and the values he imparted will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
Lance was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Joan King, beloved brothers Mark and Calvin King, sister Patricia, and many dear friends and loved ones. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind a multitude of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
In accordance with Lance's wishes, he will be cremated without a formal service. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Corewell Health Hospice and Belding Family Care for their exceptional care and thoughtful attention during Lance's final days.
While Lance's physical presence may no longer be with us, his spirit and the love he shared will remain eternal. Rest in peace, dear Lance, as you embark on your new journey, forever in our hearts.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville, 616-754-5638.
