Dr. Ivan L. Winchel, age 73, of Greenville, passed away late Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice following a stroke. The son of Ivan C. & Nettie (Baker) Winchel, he was born on December 11, 1937 in White Cloud. At the age of 8 he started farming in White Cloud, where he learned to groom, ride, and show horses, as well as winning many rodeo ribbons. In high school, Ivan was an athletic star on the football and basketball teams.
Following his graduation from the Palmer Chiropractic College, Dr. Winchel spent his working years as a chiropractor. In retirement, he kept busy with several sports including golf, cycling, and even playing basketball at the age of 72. He was a member of the Three Angels Fellowship Seventh Day Adventist Church where he enjoyed the privilidge of serving as a Deacon, in addition to supporting many other charities. He will be remembered as one who was always willing to help others and also for being generous with his opinion.
On October 25, 1986, at Shiloh Community Church, he married the former Denise Ayn Jenner, who preceded him in death on July 15, 2006.
Surviving are his children, Ivan A. Tony of Fruitport, Louri Winchel of White Cloud, Jeffrey Winchel of California, and Robert Bob" & Gayle Winchel of North Muskegon; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his extended family and many dear friends.
