Kent Kooyers

Kent Kooyers “KOOZ,” 80, was born on January 31, 1946, in Detroit, MI. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 31, 2026, in Dowagiac, MI.

He lived in Kalamazoo, MI, during his childhood and young adulthood. He settled in Lawton, MI, for the majority of his life and truly enjoyed the small-town hospitality.

He had worked many jobs over the years and developed many different skills. He was a wonderful father, nature enthusiast, woodworker, artist, and gardener. He was truly a jack of all trades and loved being able to teach people new things and share his passions with them.

One of his cherished experiences was his trip to Philmont Scout Ranch, where he was able to climb mountains, as well as a Boundary Waters trip with his best friends and brother. He was a proud Eagle Scout and was a great leader to many young scouts. Here's to taking the scenic route and enjoying country drives!

Kent is survived by his children, Loriel (Gerard) Donaghy, Gabriel (Hope) Kooyers, and Abigail (Joshua) Gibson; and four cherished grandchildren, Zach, Gwen, Annabel, and Levi. He was preceded in death by Sharon Kooyers (Hambright) and his brother, Lance Kooyers.
