Kenneth Harrison Cross, Jr., age 73, of Lakeview, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids from injuries received from an accidental fall at home. The son of Mabel Lucille (Knapp) & Kenneth Harrison Cross, Sr., he was born on September 20, 1946 in Edmore. Following his graduation from high school, Ken enlisted in the in United States Navy, served aboard the U.S.S. Ranger, and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War era.
On November 8, 1968, in Grandville, he married June Louise Spencer and together they raised three sons and enjoyed nearly 52 years of marriage. Ken was a long-time member of the Langston Bible Church having served as an elder and deacon. While he enjoyed mowing his yard, John Deere tractors, feeding the squirrels, woodworking, and spoiling his dog, Toby, his greatest joy was found in time spent with his family, friends, and his church family at Langston Bible Church. He retired as a crane operator from the former Electrolux Home Products after 41 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his parents-in-law, Ralph & Anna Spencer. Surviving are his wife, June Cross of Lakeview; their sons, Gordon & Lynn Cross of Trufant, Don & Carmen Cross of Lakeview, and Dan Cross of Lakeview; four grandchildren, Autum Cross, Sierra Plesko, Mark Plesko, and Ashlee Stormzand; two brothers and a sister, Gary Cross of Sheridan, Ronnie Cross of St. Johns, and Christine Campbell of Belding; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for a public visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Langston Bible Church (being mindful of the governor's emergency orders and social distancing limitations of 50 people inside the church at one time).
Private funeral services will be held on Saturday at the church with Pastor Jeff Davis officiating, however, family and friends are invited to join the family for public graveside committal services at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Riverside Cemetery in Langston (adjacent to the church). Ken's brother-in-law, the Rev. Roger Spencer, will offer the committal prayer with military honors, rendered by the United States Navy, concluding the ceremonies.
