Kayla Vandergriff

Mrs. Kayla Lynn Vandegriff, age 60, of Battle Creek, died Monday afternoon, April 21, 2008 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice. She was born March 15, 1948, in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Frank and Lillian Hillis. Kayla came to Battle Creek in 1969 after graduating from Borgess School of Nursing. Kayla worked at Leila and Community hospitals and nursing facilities as Director of Nursing. She retired from nursing in 2001 to be a homemaker. Kayla enjoyed crafting, going to Pow Wow's, dancing, attending Native American ceremonies and traveling. Kayla is survived by her husband, Bill; three sons, J.W., B.J., and A.J.; a daughter, Sarah; 2 grandsons, Brandyn and Cameryn; a brother, Jim Hillis of Kalamazoo; and a special niece, Samantha Vandegriff. There will be a dinner at a later date in Kayla's honor. She will then be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to a charity of choice or Hospice.
