Mrs. Kathryn L. Holmden, age 89, of Greenville, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, Dec. 31,2006 from her home. The daughter of Wilfred A. & Grace (Hard)Black, she was born on Feb. 4, 1917 in Lakeview, and was a graduate of Lakeview High School. On Aug.31, 1945, at the old Oakfield Baptist chapel, she married Martin E. Holmden. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm on Wellman Road in Oakfield Township and were longtime members of Oakfield Baptist Church. After Martin's death, she sold the farm and moved to Greenville. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, sewing, and playing the organ.
Kathryn was a quiet person, who in later years suffered in silence. She was always a strong and loving member of the family. She was an example to follow in life and was the family's strongest prayer warrior.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin E. Holmden on Nov. 9, 1970; a brother, Gordon Black; and two sisters, Hazel Hewitt, and Wilma Walkington.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ann & David Ed of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Barbara Weiland of Grand Rapids, Virginia Minion of Gowen, a brother, Ernest "Bud" Black of Rochester Hills, a brother-in-law, Ralph Walkington of Blanchard; a sister-in-law, Lucille VanderHeide of Spring Hill, Florida; two grandsons, Richard Ed, and Todd & Darcy Ed, both of Wyoming; two great grandchildren, Lydia Louise, age 21 months and Dalton David Ed, age 3 weeks; and several nieces and nephews.
