Kathryn H. Heyer, age 76, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Center, Michigan.
The daughter of Mary Ellen (Fritz) & Joseph John Heyer, Jr., she was born on December 22, 1946 in Grand Rapids and was a graduate of Greenville High School in Greenville, Michigan. She attended Henry Ford Hospital's Nursing School in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1976.
She made her career as legal secretary with several notable legal firms in Grand Rapids, and took great pride in her secretarial skills. She always sought to assist and advance the profession. Kathy was a lifelong advocate for animal welfare, and a fancier of cats. She also had a soft spot in her heart for children, and advocated for their nurturing and care.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Jean. She is survived by her brother, David Heyer; two nieces, Annette Kolb and her husband Chad Sytsma, and Lousia Heyer; three nephews, Daniel Heyer, Aaron Heyer and Marcus Kolb; and her beloved cat, Gracie.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1362 Leonard Street N.W., Grand Rapids, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org), or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
