Kathleen Louise Reau, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the age of 77. Kathleen, affectionately known as Kathy, was originally from Erie, Michigan. After retirement, she made her home in Wellston, Michigan, and later moved to Canadian Lakes following the passing of her beloved husband, Richard Lee Reau. Her final days were spent in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where she found companionship and friendship with Richard Nelson.
Kathy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. She is survived by her son, Richard Lee Reau Jr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her daughter, Kristie Lynn Budd of Colon, Michigan; and her cherished grandchildren, Keegan, Ronan, and Lauren Murphy of Toledo, Ohio; and a sister, Karen Sneed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Reau; and her parents, Erma & Howard Johnson.
A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Kathy found great joy in nature. She especially enjoyed boating and fishing with family and friends, creating countless memories on the water. Her warmth, kindness, and love for those around her will be remembered by everyone who knew her.
In her later years, Kathy found renewed faith in God, which brought her comfort, strength, and a community of treasured friends. Her faith became an important part of her life and a source of peace that sustained her. Kathy’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and quiet generosity. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched, but her memory will live on in their hearts forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Kathy’s life from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue S.E. at 36th Street (one block west of Eastern Avenue), Grand Rapids, Michigan 49548. An informal prayer service will begin the celebration at 1:00 p.m., with a time of food, fellowship, and sharing of memories to follow.
