Kathleen Winternheimer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, interior designer, and friend, passed peacefully on May 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 84 years old.
Born on February 10, 1942, Kathleen was the cherished daughter of the late Dr. Donald James McCarthy and Azeline Lombardo McCarthy.
She was widely known in her hometown community of Wheaton, Illinois as a warm, loving, gregarious, artistic, and vibrant woman whose presence brought beauty and connection wherever she went. Her beautiful smile, laughter, creativity, and generous spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Professionally, Kathleen was a respected ASID Interior Designer, owner of New Castle Interior Design, and a top seller for Century Furniture at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, Illinois. She was admired for her warm and elegant eye for design and her passion for creating beautiful and welcoming spaces. Kathleen was also a member of the Saugatuck Douglas Garden Club and found great joy in beauty and community.
Kathleen is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. George Winternheimer; her daughter, Pamela Winternheimer Boetscher and husband Jay; her son, Dr. Jeffrey Winternheimer; and her treasured grandchildren Jessica, Brandon, Jack and Hannah. She is also survived by her sister, Colleen Kalina McCarthy; brother, Michael McCarthy and wife Sheila; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dr. James McCarthy.
Kathleen lived a life rooted in family, beauty, creativity, and love. Her joyful spirit and deeply loving heart leave a lasting legacy in the many lives she touched.
She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered with love.🤍✨
A Celebration of Life for Kathleen will be held August 1st hosted by her family. More information to come at a later date.
