June Elizabeth Murphy, age 100, left this world on July 7th and is now with her beloved husband, Jack; and daughter, Lynn, who predeceased her.
She was born in Weirton, West Virginia in 1917 but spent her childhood in Warren, Ohio, where she graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. She furthered her education at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she graduated with a degree in social work. June was elected to the Alpha Kappa Delta Honorary Society, and served as President of the Chi Omega Sorority.
Her marriage to Jack produced two children, a daughter, the late Lynn Jennings formerly of Wyandotte, MI, and a son, Richard Murphy, of Grand Rapids, MI.
June was active in the Women's City Club, the Voigt House, GR Public Museum, Meijer Gardens and the Questers Club. She became known as the "Tea Lady" due to her many talks in and around Grand Rapids about Victorian era life while dressed in her Victorian attire.
June is survived by her son, Richard (Carol), three grandchildren, Julie Jennings, Kim Morris (Jack) and Colleen Quist (Paul), along with six great grandchildren. A private family service will be held to celebrate her life. Donations to Mel Trotter Ministries, Frederick Meijer Gardens or the Salvation Army would be very much appreciated in lieu of flowers.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
