Judith A. Bufka, age 82, of Wyoming, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 while in Hospice Care in her home.
She was born on September 18, 1940, in Grand Haven, to George H. & Helen (Lund) DeWitt. She is survived by her two children, Brent Bufka and Stacy Donley; grandchildren Keith (Keri) and Christopher Bufka; great grandchildren Chase and Tyne Bufka. Additionally, daughter-in-law Sherry Bufka, and son-in-law Pot Donley. She is preceded in death by her life partner of over 40 years, Allan J. Weber; and her son, Jerry G. Bufka II.
Judy worked for the United States Postal Service for 21 years until her retirement in 2000. Before that she developed film at Muir Photo.
She was a member of the American Legion, National Association of Letter Carriers, and the Michigan Association of Letter Carriers.
She enjoyed shopping, especially when she found the good deals. She could've been called the "Queen of Clearance Shopping". Kohl's and Meijer's were two of her favorite stores to shop, they were also the two stores she went where everyone knew her name. Not only did they know each other's names, but they also knew all about the other's families and lives. She also enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She loved to keep her yard up, and grow beautiful flowers. She always grew roses and loved to bring fresh cut roses inside onto the kitchen table. She enjoyed going to the casinos in St Ignace and Mackinaw. She never did very well, but she enjoyed herself. She couldn't stay long at the casinos because she always had her dog with her at the hotel waiting for her. She loved and never went anywhere without her Yorkie dogs.
She also had a great time bowing. Her and Allan bowled together for well over 20 years, with the last five years or so having her children join their team. In her younger years, you could find her out with the family camping and riding motorcycles in the Newaygo area. But of all these times she enjoyed over her life, she enjoyed her time with her family most of all. Whether it was bowling together, backyard picnics, or game night at the kitchen table playing Cribbage, Skip Bo, or Uno, she loved spending time with her family.
During her time in Hospice care, she was very thankful for the caring aides, nurses, chaplain and her social worker that came to help her family take care of her. Most of the time they were here, she was entertaining them with colorful stories of her past (all true stories) which everyone enjoyed listening to; and she enjoyed making them smile. It was important to her that they had a good time, while trying to do such a difficult job. Our family is so thankful for our Spectrum Hospice family that took care of mom and was there for us during her final journey.
Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery (Garden of the Nativity) on Wednesday (May 31st) at noon.
Burial arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
