Joyce Kay Wells, age 80, of Trufant, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020 with her family by her side. The daughter of Nelson & Mary (VanWormer) Hunt, she was born on February 23, 1940 in Bath, Michigan.
On January 7, 1961, in Dewitt, Michigan, she married Lawrence Ernest Wells and together they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage and raised three children. Joyce also worked outside the home, first at the Wolverine World Wide glove factory in Greenville and then a Ore-Ida Foods in Greenville. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, and cooking -- especially baking her family's favorites which included brownies, Texas sheet cakes, and lemon meringue pies -- but she found her greatest joy in her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Beverly Kruger and Rosie Brown; a brother, Donald Hunt; and a granddaughter, Jessica Wells. Surviving are her husband, Larry Wells of Trufant; their three children, Michelle & Jerry Smith of Gowen, Debbie & Jeff Gorby of Cedar Springs, and Steve & Wendy Wells of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Jerry S. & Tracy Smith, Angie Smith, Sean & Michal Gorby, Keegan Gorby, Tricia & Eric Simon, Tristin Wells, Alexis Wells, Kyle London, and Brett & Brena London; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to limitations imposed by the state, private family services will be held at Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville, however, relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a graveside committal service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Trufant Cemetery. Instead of flowers, Joyce would have appreciated contributions in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
