Joyce Harriet Ramsey passed away on July 1, 2019, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, surrounded in love with her family by her side. Joyce was born in Westerly, Rhode Island on August 31, 1944, to Floyd and Harriet Magrey and had six brothers and sisters.
Joyce came of age in the 1960's and fully embraced the peace, love, liberation and freedom that accompanied that era. She eventually married and had two daughters, Jill (Mike Schmidt) Ramsey-Baughn and Tammy (Stephen) Griffee. She taught her daughters how to be graceful in time of trial and to keep a positive attitude. Although her life was filled with some rough moments, she always came out on top and never looked back. She was affectionately known as G-ma by her grandchildren, Tyler Ramsey, Megan (Scott) Trevorrow, Austin Coleman, Mel Baughn, Kristyn Coleman, Jewelia Coleman and Mitchell Ramsey. In addition, she was blessed to meet her great-grandson, Owen, four months ago.
Joyce loved a good sarcastic joke, Captain and coke and family (sometimes in that order). She gave love and criticism freely and without pause to everyone, including strangers, which sometimes led to a few awkward moments. She was proud of her cooking, and her family gratefully reaped the benefits of this. She never got the knack of cooking for a smaller family though and we always had enough food to feed the neighborhood. As she grew older, she spent her time with her puzzle books, reading tablet, the Property Brothers and Chip and Joanna Gaines.
There will be a memorial open house to celebrate her life on Saturday July 6th from 1-4 at her home. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor to be a part of her life.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation and Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
