Joyce M. Barnes, age 79, of rural Sheridan, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at Spectrum Health United Memorial-United Campus, Greenville. The daughter of Fritz & Elizabeth (Braithwaite) Puffpaff, she was born on Nov. 12, 1927 near Remus. After his return from fighting in World War II, she married Robert O. Barnes on April 28, 1946 in Greenville. A devoted wife and mother, Joyce enjoyed reading and cross word puzzles, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert O. Barnes on Dec. 8, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry & Laurie Barnes of Clinton Township, and Michael Barnes and Barton Rarick of Chicago, Ill.; a granddaughter, Erin Barnes; two grandsons, Sean Barnes and Trevor Barnes; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Martin Puffpaff of Pennsylvania, and Fritz & Anne Puffpaff of Charlevoix; and special friends, Alice & Ernie McMeeken of Greenville, and Edna Sawdy of Sheridan.
Visitation is on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with a time of food and fellowship following at the Greenville American Legion Post.
Honoring Joyces wishes, no formal ceremonies will be held and cremation will follow the visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of ones choice.
