Joseph Wisser

Joseph Lawrence Wisser, born October 19, 1946, passed away on August 28, 2017 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Joe graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, and served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He retired from the Kalamazoo State Hospital, and has spent the last several years residing in the Home for Veterans in Grand Rapids. The family thanks the staff and Joe's friends at the Home for Veterans for their loving care and support of him while he resided there. He felt "at home" and cared deeply about all the staff and his friends. The family also wants to thank the Grand Rapids Spectrum Hospice staff and the "No Vet Dies Alone" volunteers who helped to care for him during the last weeks of his life. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Agnes Wisser; older brother, Fredrick Wisser. He leaves behind two daughters; two siblings; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave. N.E., with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place after the service at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave. N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49505 or Spectrum Health Hospice, 750 Fuller Ave. N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
