Joseph Westphal

Joseph Lee Westphal, age 73, of Norton Shores, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He was born January 5, 1952, in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Robert and Marlene (Stark) Westphal Sr. Joe was a graduate of Orchard View High School. He married Esther Louise Kamen on May 17, 1975, in Kingston, Michigan. Joe worked many years in the steel industry and in his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and building computers. Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Esther; two daughters, Mary (Anthony) Szubinski and Stephanie Westphal; 8 grandchildren, Aylizza(Christian) Mathewson, Jazmine (fiance, Nick Cory) Gonzalez, Andrew Gonzalez, Anthony Szubinski Jr., D’Angelo Smith, Tyler Smith, Abigail (fiancé, Nate Benson) Smith, and Justin Schmidt; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Westphal Jr., Sheryl (Chris) Kary, and Kathy (Dan Canavan) Deyoung; sisters-in-law, Sally Demaray and Virginia (Joe) McIntosh; brother-in-law, Don (Elaine) Kamen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Marlene; parents-in-law, Raymond and Frances Kamen Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Kamen Jr. and Steve Demaray. Per Joe’s wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held at this time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Roosevelt Park Nursing Center for their help and care of Joe over the past year and to Heartland Hospice for their care and comfort in Joe’s final days.
