Joseph William Montgomery "Bill," age 69, entered into eternal peace Saturday, October 12, 2019. Bill was born September 25, 1950, in Baltimore, MD and moved to Lansing, MI in 1967.
He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Marnie (Green) Montgomery of 47 years and their five children; Kari Montgomery (Gregg) Palazzolo of Ada, MI; Marci Montgomery (Kurt) Jacobs East Lansing, MI; Matthew Montgomery (Lindsey) Lansing, MI; Molly Montgomery (John) Lee Chanhassen, MN; and Mark Montgomery Edina, MN. Grandpa Bill will be missed by his grandchildren; Devin, Zoe, and Jake Palazzolo; Madison, Jack, and Ava Jacobs; Monroe, London, and Presley Montgomery; Savory, Savannah, and Stella Lee. Bill is also remembered by his sister, Jean (Montgomery) Gibson; his brother, Timothy Montgomery both of Forest, VA and many additional family and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William and Eileen Montgomery, and his brothers, Michael and Patrick Montgomery.
Bill graduated from Gabriels High School in Lansing, MI and is a veteran who served for the U.S. Army. He was passionate about his career in the financial services industry and enriched the lives of many since 1979. He was often referred to as a "legend" in his field due to his personal brand of professionalism, creativity and "will to win." Bill retired from John Hancock in 2010 as Regional Vice President in Minneapolis, MN and shortly after, Marnie and Bill relocated to East Lansing, MI. When he wasn't working, he had a lifetime love of golf and his close friends often referred to him as "Cool Breeze."
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, 2019, at St. Martha Parish, 1100 W. Grand River Ave., Okemos, MI 48864, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Murray officiating. The family will receive family and friends at St. Martha Parish at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Bill's memory.
