Joseph Samuel MacMillan, age 42 of Grand Rapids, passed away all too soon, on February 4, 2025. The son of Claudia A. MacMillan, he was born on December 21, 1982, in Palo Alto, California. A veteran of the United States Navy, Joe served his country aboard the U.S.S. Fitzgerald (DDG 62). For his honorable service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Pistol Shot Medal, and Expert Rifleman Medal.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Claudia A. MacMillan & Michael Ferraro of Fennville; his sister, Alyssa MacMillan, also of Fennville; his partner Lee Ann Sharp of Grand Rapids; his Wyoming stepfather, Chris MacMillan; and his step-grandparents, Kip and Lin MacMillan of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Joined in memory are his beloved grandparents Erwin and Steffi Deutsch.
Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and committal services, with military honors rendered jointly by the U.S. Navy and the all-volunteer Fort Custer Honor Guard, will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
