Mr. Joseph Norton Hansen, age 85, of Greenville, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 2, 2007 under the loving care of his family and Hospice. The son of Alik & Helene M. (Norton) Hansen, he was born on March 23, 1921 in Cedar Springs. A veteran of World War II, Joe proudly served as a Technical Sergeant with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the European theatre and was a life member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville. After returning home from the war, he married Hazel Marguerite Smith on May 23, 1947 at the parsonage of the First Congregational Church in Greenville. He retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company as a superintendent after nearly 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Hansen; a sister, Mary J. VanHoose; a brother-in-law, Jack VanHoose; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hansen. Surviving are his wife of almost 60 years, Hazel M. Hansen of Greenville; their children, Thomas Hansen of Midland, and Cindy Hansen of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Joseph & Tina Hansen, Jacob Hansen, James & Laura Hansen, and Madeleine Hansen McSwain; five great grandchildren, Taylor Hansen, Alek Hansen, Victoria Hansen, Sophia Hansen, and Thomas Hansen; special family friend, Sharon McSwain; and several nieces and nephews.
