Mr. Joseph Junior (Weidenfeller) Feller, aged 78, of Grand Rapids, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2005 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. The son of Joseph & Margaret (Henning) Weidenfeller, he was born on Aug. 26, 1927. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Joe served aboard the U.S.S. Howard W. Gilmore, a submarine tender and spent the rest of his working years on the seas as a Merchant Marine. He enjoyed his church friends and family, doing charity work, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and will be greatly missed by his three sisters, Margaret Piebenga, Jeanette (Mike) Reed, all of Grandville, and Dottie (Jerry) Johnson of Gun Lake; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ron Weidenfeller of Grand Rapids.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005 from the chapel of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave. N.E., with the Rev. Father Michael Danner officiating. Military honors will follow, with private interment in the Veterans cemetery. Visitation is on Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either Visiting Nurse-Hospice or the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Envelopes will be available at the Veteran's chapel and are also available at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home.
