Jon Overhiser

August 4, 1963 — March 7, 2019

Jon N. Overhiser, age 55, of New Era, passed away Thursday evening, March 7, 2019 at Mercy Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids following a sudden illness. The son of Lynn Neil & Jeannette (Stefaniakis) Overhiser, he was born on August 4, 1963 in East Grand Rapids. After graduating high school, Jon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was a proud Marine. Jon enjoyed Michigan's great outdoors and delighted in fishing, snowmobiling, and riding ATV's. He was employed as a electrical code engineer at ESPEC North America in Hudsonville. On August 2, 2002, in Hudsonville, he married Kristin Jill Timmer, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Jeanette Batitis of Rockford; three children, April Overhiser, Thomas Overhiser, and Justin Overhiser; a half-brother, Neil; a half-sister, Sherry; mother-in-law, Ruth Timmer of Holland; siblings-in-law, Kurtis & Jimi Timmer of Brogue, Pennsylvania, Kerri & Chuck Swiggum of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Kraig & Tracty Timmer of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue S.E. at 36th Street (one block west of Eastern Avenue), Grand Rapids. Honoring Jon's wishes, no formal services will be held, and military honors, rendered by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard, will conclude the visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Due to allergies, the family kindly requests no flowers please. For a more lasting memorial, please consider contributions in Jon's memory to either the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
