John Solomon

John David Solomon, Sr., age 65, of Ensley Center, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids. The son of Allen George & Dorice (Orr) Solomon, he was born on August 4, 1957 in Stuart, Florida. On July 20, 1979, in Stuart, Florida, he married Debra Gail Manasco and together they raised two children and enjoyed over 43 years of marriage. For 30 years, John worked as a heavy equipment operator, excavator, and mechanic with Shaffer Excavation. He enjoyed being outside, fishing, and spending time with his family... most of all with his three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John David Solomon, Jr. on December 27, 2014, a sister and four brothers, Cathy, Allen Jr., Jimmy, Freddy, and Tommy. Surviving are his wife, Debra Solomon; their daughter Amanda Solomon & Dustyn Peterson; three grandchildren, Wesley, Braelynn, and Willow, all of Ensley Center; four sisters, Dorice Timmons, Sandra McMullen, Rose Solomon, and Norie Solomon; a brother, Michael Solomon; his parents-in-law, Joy Smith and Ed & Sue Manasco; siblings-in-law, Edward Duane Manasco, and Maranda Smith & Russell Burkette; and many nieces and nephews. Honoring John's wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead of flowers, contributions in his memory may be directed to the Helen Devos Childrens Hospital.
