John Mackintosh

John James Mackintosh, 75, of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday May 7, 2018 at Metro Health University of Michigan Hospital, with his family at his side. The son of William & Mary (Doody) Mackintosh, he was born in Staten Island, New York on February 15, 1943. John graduated in 1960 from Port Richmond High School in Staten Island. He served 20 years in the United States Navy as a jet mechanic and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. After moving to Edgewater, Florida John became employed at NASA, working at the Kennedy Space Center where he helped to design the first and second phases of the International Space Station. John was an avid golfer and bowler most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Mary Mackintosh and daughter, Christina Mackintosh. He is survived by his children, Patrick & Brenda Mackintosh, Jen Weldon, and Melissa Vitkauskas; sisters, Kathy Myers, and Marylou & Ray Mishler; brothers, Terry & Maryellen Mackintosh, and Ken & Ben Mackintosh, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26th at Our Lady of Consolidation Church, 4865 11 Mile Road, Rockford, 49341, where the Memorial Service will begin promptly at 11 a.m.. Deacon Jim Hessler will officiate, with a time of fellowship and food to follow in the church hall. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
