John Gorman

John E. Gorman, age 83, of Greenville, formerly of Bay City and Midland, passed away Thursday evening, June 25, 2009 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of John Edwin & Florence May (Allen) Gorman, he was born on June 7, 1926 in Detroit. He began a career with the Dow Chemical Company in Midland in 1943, which was interrupted when John enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Dow where one of the highlights of his career was working on the Apollo rocket project for NASA at the Kennedy Space Station in Florida, retiring as supervisor of investment recovery. John was an avid antique and collectible car buff, who also enjoyed building dune buggies, in addition to gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janet Irene (Dore) Gorman; three daughters, Mary Beth Corey, Barbara Ann Bailor, Brenda Marie Campbell; three sons, Matthew James Gorman, Gregory Gerard Gorman, Luke Christopher Gorman; two grandchildren, Mathew Robert Gorman and Janet Lynn Bailor; two sisters, Margaret Kotlewski and Ellen Bradley; and a brother, Patrick Gorman. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Seene) Gorman of Greenville; their children, John E. & Sharon Gorman of Sugar Land, Texas, Scott & Mitzi Gorman of Midland, Mark & Sherry Gorman of Ada, Molly & Brian Vogel of Houston, Texas, and Wayne D. Dillon, Jr. of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda (Gorman) Swayze of DeWitt,; three sons-in-law, Marlan Corey of Owosso, Gary Bailor of Essexville, and Jeffrey Campbell of Bloomfield Hills; three sisters and a brother-in-law, May Cabay of Auburn, Edith & Milton Winters of Bay City, and Kathleen Hickerson of Midland; sixteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009 from St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with Father Phil Salmonowicz presiding. Visitation is Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S.
