Mr. John L. Dann, 81, of Turk Lake, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2006 at Quality Adult Foster Care Home in Greenville. The son of Ivan & Hilda (Johnson) Dann, he was born on July 15, 1924 in Deerfield Township, Mecosta County.
A veteran of World War II, John proudly served as a medic with the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater and in the liberation of the Phillipine Islands. John was a life member of both the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 and the Cleveland-Wolverton Veterans of Foreign Wars in Greenville. For 44 1/2 years, he was employed at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company where he worked as a repairman and was a member of the UAW Local 137.
A very social person, who enjoyed the company of family and friends, John was also a member of the Moose Lodge and was a founding member of the Greenville Area Singles. He will be remembered for his love of birds, fishing, and gathering his family together for barbeques.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Evelyn (Edgecombe) Dann-Garvey; two sisters, Ruth Brandow and Esther Rhoades; an infant grandson, Troy Martin Barnhill; a grandson-in-law, Bruce L. Steffes; and a great grandson, Zachariah L. Zach Steffes.
Surviving are his special friend and companion, Zoa Blue Eyes Spaulding of Greenville; his children, Deborah & Donald Phenix of Turk Lake, Fredrick A. Dann of Greenville, and Rebecca & Paul Johnson of Cedar Springs; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Charles & Olga Dann of Mancelona, Dorothy Heald, Hazel Dann, and Richard Dann, all of Greenville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
