John Henry Ambler, born on March 28, 1952, in Lima, OH, found his eternal rest on January 7, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, whose life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep love for his family. As Ernest Hemingway once said, "The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice." John embodied these qualities and more.
John, a devoted family man, called Grand Rapids, Michigan, home for 30 years, where he lived with his wife, Peggy Ambler, by his side. They celebrated life together since their marriage on August 23, 1986. John worked diligently for LG Cook LLC in shipping and receiving until his retirement in 2001. His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his dedication to his family. John was known for his infectious laughter, his love for fishing and sports, and his remarkable ability to make each of his 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) feel uniquely loved and cherished.
John Ambler is survived by his wife Peggy, his brother Albert, sister Robin Bates, his children Tammy Haynes, Amie Green, and Christopher Ambler, his niece Tracy DeBruyn, and his aunt Pamela Curtis. He is preceded in death by his father, John Ambler Sr., his mother, Mildred Morningstar, siblings James, Carol, Chuck, and Vonda Ambler, grandson Jawan Chatman, and son-in-law Charles Haynes.
William Penn once said, "Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still." John lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. We invite all who knew and loved John to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. His life was a testament to the power of love, the value of family, and the joy found in simple pleasures. John's light in our lives will never fade.
