John Albrough

John L. Albrough, age 78, of Coopersville and formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021. He was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Luella (Hixon) Albrough, and his loving wife of 39 years, Karen (VanLuven) Albrough. Born on March 30, 1943 in Sault Ste. Marie, John was an avid outdoorsman and active Boy Scout. After graduating from Sault Area High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force, 379th Combat Defense (SAC), Air Police Security, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. Stationed at the Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, MI, he was a canine trainer with his sentry dog, Thunder. th After his discharge in 1966, John worked for many years at Wohlert Special Products, where he was a plant supervisor and material manager. The couple were foster parents to numerous children over the years. In his spare time, John enjoyed camping and spending time at his cabin, serving as a Boy Scout leader, and volunteering for 25 years with the International 500 Snowmobile Race in Sault Ste. Marie. After retiring, John left the Upper Peninsula, but never lost his Yooper pride, his love of the outdoors or his commitment to helping others. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outside with his grandchildren, volunteering at the Coopersville Farm Museum, attending Jam Night, watching NASCAR, telling stories, and lending a hand to family, friends and residents at The Depot. John is survived by his siblings, Candy (Jerry) Cobb, and Ray (Deb) Albrough; his three children, John "Duke" Albrough, Pam (Jen) Albrough, and Mandy (Ryan) Burley; grandchildren, Brendan (Katie) Burley, Blake Burley, Keagan Albrough, Kristen Albrough, and Alexis Albrough; his dear companion Linda Kark; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4201 Burlingame Ave., Wyoming, MI, at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021. An additional service will be held at the Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Chapel, 15264 M-129, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29. Memorial donations can be made to the Coopersville Farm Museum, 375 Main St, Coopersville, MI 49404, in John's honor.
