Jimmy Guy Jim Guthrie, age 56, of Gowen, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 20, 2005 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids, after a brief illness. The son of Orvin & Mary (Downing) Guthrie, he was born on Sept. 20, 1949 in Lakeview. For 38 years, Jim worked at Electrolux in Greenville, primarily as a hi-lo driver and was a member of the UAW Local 137. He retired this past October.
On July 24, 1993, in Greenville, he married the former Diane Miller. A loving husband and father, Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, hunting, camping, mushrooming, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Guthrie; and a sister, Judy Sandow. Surviving are his wife, Diane Guthrie of Gowen; his children, Jim & Becky Guthrie of Pierson, Jodi Guthrie and Cheryl Nemeth of Coral, Tim Miller and Lori Jones of Gowen, and Amy & Gary Kern of Gowen; his grandchildren, Tiffany, Trenton, Meghan, and Hunter Guthrie, Ryan, Jamie, Bryan, and Jeremy Miller, and Brittany and Alex Kern; a great granddaughter, Alexis Baker; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Harold & Angie Guthrie of Stanton, and Connie Guthrie of Coral; one nephew; several nieces; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 from the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger, pastor of Shiloh Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Little Denmark Cemetery, Gowen. Visitation is Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
