Jimmie Dale Scofield, age 58, of Gowen, passed away Sunday morning, October 13, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Spencer Township. The son of Erling Dale Scofield and Nell (Childs) Helmer, he was born on April 10, 1955 in Greenville. After graduating from high school, Jimmie served with the U.S. Marines and was the current Post Commander of the Cleveland-Wolverton Post 3794 in Greenville. On October 1, 1976 in Greenville, he married Pattsy Buche. Jimmie was an avid outdoorsman. He was a mechanic and gunsmith and had won numerous trophies and awards for his marksmanship. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed being "Grandpa Jim" at both Cedar Crest and Lincoln Heights Elementary Schools with the "foster grandparent" program. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, and a sister. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Pattsy; their son, Andrew and Heather Scofield of Greenville; his mother, Nell Helmer of Alabama; his grandchildren, Jordan, Matthew, Meghann, Sean, Owyn, and Ashton; two brothers, Steve Scofield and Tom & Tina Scofield; a sister, Cheryl Giza; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He will be missed by all as he lived for his family. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions to Toys for Tots will be available. Funeral services are at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 12501 Montcalm Avenue, Greenville, with the Rev. Mark Shaw, lead pastor, officiating.
