Jeanine Merritt

Jeanine "Jeanie" E. Merritt, age 83, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022. She was born at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, MI on April 9, 1939 the middle child of five children. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Margaret (Eipper) Merritt and siblings, Jerrold "Jerry" Merritt, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lockyer, and James "Jimmy" Merritt. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Warner, many nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by friends, Lulabell "Lu" Simmons of Wauseon, OH and Conni Wireman of Marshall, MI. Jeanie graduated Marshall High School in 1957. She was known to many as "Aunt Jeanie" as she took care of them when they would frequent one of many restaurants where she waitressed. She had no need to write down orders as her mind was sharp as a tack! She also served in retail. However, her true passion was designing window displays in downtown Marshall. Anyone that knew Jeanie was well aware of her talent and all the "treasures" that she had collected over the years; these she used to decorate her home that she shared with her "babies", Lady Jane and Georgie Girl, her beloved cats. A celebration of life will take place April 30, 2022, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Woodland Church, 15510 A Drive N, Marshall, MI 49068. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Companion Cats. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
