Jean Marie Nestell, born on October 24, 1946, in Detroit, MI, was a woman who filled every room with her resilient spirit, witty humor, and the warmest of smiles. On June 18, 2024, Jean, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away leaving a void in the hearts of many. Known for her love of Coca-Cola, butterflies, and her card games, Jean was never one to shy away from speaking her mind. Her famous phrase, "Go to Hell," was delivered with such humor and candor, it was impossible not to chuckle. She lived her life by the words of Maya Angelou, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” and indeed, Jean made everyone around her feel loved and cherished. Residing in Byron Center, Michigan, Jean spent her days crafting, solving crossword puzzles, watching her favorite shows, and playing bingo. However, the joy of her life was her family. She was the loving mother to her sons Ronald (Sondra) Nestell, Denny Walter, James Jackson III, and her daughters Jeana (Corey) Wilson, and Dawn (Lenwood) Stowe. She was the witty and funny grandmother to Brylee Sepanik, Aubree Wilson, Justin (Samantha) Stowe, Kristian Siegel, Symone Siegel-Howell, Shaniah Siegel, and James Siegel. She was also the resilient great-grandmother to Ronan Stowe, Aurelia Stowe, Ava Moore, and Joshua Anderson; and an aunt to many, many cherished nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Agnes Cass; and sixteen brothers and sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family to celebrate Jean's life from 1-5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post No. 101, located at 1320 W. Washington Street (M-57), Greenville, Michigan 48838. Jean's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and humor. Her life was her message, and it was simple: love unconditionally, always stand up for yourself, and never forget to laugh.
